« Cultural and sustainable management of Islands blue economies and oceans ecosystems »

Side event focus on Islands.

This side event aims to share innovative SIDS solutions, success stories and methods to overcome hurdles and achieve partnerships for a sustainable blue economy.

The event will enable participants to share experiences on the commitments of governments, financing agencies and NGOs to promote concrete actions for sustainable use of marine resources, based on innovative governance and cultural approaches in addition to innovative financing mechanisms and priorities.  Private sector-led initiatives regarding the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources will also be presented.

The scaling up of ocean action and financing mechanisms is central to providing necessary support for ongoing national and regional initiatives, not only for SDG 14 but for other Sustainable Development Goals.  The event will also cover sustainable financing opportunities for SIDS on the blue economy as provided by financing agencies.
