During her official visit to French Polynesia, Catherine Chabaud, French Minister Delegate for the Sea and Fisheries, awarded several distinctions of the Order of Maritime Merit at a ceremony held on 30 June 2026 at the Residence of the High Commissioner of French Polynesia. This national distinction recognises women and men whose commitment and contribution to maritime development have provided outstanding service to the maritime community.

These distinctions send a strong message to the maritime community of French Polynesia. They highlight the importance of daily commitment in support of maritime users, economic development, maritime safety and ocean protection, and demonstrate how such dedication contributes directly to the future of the territory.
They also showcase the diversity of careers that sustain and strengthen the blue economy today. Shipowners, seafarers, fishers, environmental advocates, business leaders and public sector professionals all play an essential role in the sustainable development of maritime activities.
For younger generations, these recipients are a source of inspiration. Their achievements demonstrate that passion for the sea, combined with hard work, perseverance and responsibility, can lead to remarkable accomplishments and national recognition.
The strong representation of women among the awardees is particularly encouraging for the future of the maritime sector and highlights their growing contribution across the full spectrum of maritime professions.
